Regardless of whether you are a student, staff or faculty there is always something that you can do. And Yes!, it will make a difference and Yes!, it is super easy. For example:
Turn off the lights when you leave a room or when the party is over!
There are more than 25,000 light switches on campus.
Set your computer to power-save, or sleep, mode!
Screen savers don't save energy. Power-save mode does.
Turn off your computer overnight and on weekends!
A typical computer left on permanently consumes more than $100 per year in electricity
Closing the fume hood sash!
A typical 5-foot-wide fume hood increases heating and cooling costs by $5,000 a year. Closing the sash increases safety and can decrease energy use.
Always buy energy-efficient equipment!
Each 1,000 watts used costs $900 per year.
Close the blinds in the summer.
Shades and blinds can reduce a room's peak cooling load by 30 to 50 percent.
Shut off peripherals, like printers, with your computer.
Computer peripherals account for 10 percent or more of a work station's energy use.
